Nearly 70% of American women are considered “plus size.” Yet only 1% of specialty apparel stores are dedicated to serving this market.

Ella & Oak is targeting this market, along with the $2 billion plus-size wedding dress industry. Its e-commerce business enables women to order multiple wedding dresses online and try them on in the comfort of their home.

This is the same business model as Warby Parker, a startup selling prescription frames and sunglasses valued at an estimated $1.7 billion.

Ella & Oak launched to a group of “beta brides” in January 2019, and will begin to serve customers nationwide in May 2019.
