seatXchange is a mobile marketplace enabling fans to exchange tickets for sporting events and concerts.

Unlike other ticket platforms such as StubHub and SeatGeek — both of which generate hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue — seatXchange enables fans to exchange seats with others during an event, and offers additional features while charging a low, flat transaction fee.

According to Statista, a market research company, the U.S. event ticketing industry surpassed $13 billion in revenue in 2018, and is expected to reach $19 billion by 2022.

Despite this growth, Americans only attend an average of 5 to 7 live events per year. And in a recent study conducted by Live Analytics, a division of Ticketmaster, 19% of fans said they planned to go to fewer events the following year.

seatXchange believes the reason for this forecasted decrease in attendance is that fans aren't receiving a personalized experience. And venues and organizations struggle to create a unique atmosphere for attendees.

seatXchange aims to solve these problems.

Using seatXchange, fans can:

• Purchase tickets even after an event starts…

• Use the app’s price-comparison tool to see how much they're saving before purchasing…

• Receive tickets instantly on their smartphone…

• See if friends are going to an event and where they’re sitting…

• And gain access to special promotions at nearby restaurants.

Users can also exchange seats with other fans during an event. For example, if a fan with a seat in a lower part of the stadium would prefer to sit higher up, while another fan would rather sit closer to the field, the two can swap seats using seatXchange.

In exchange for these features, the company charges a low, flat fee for each transaction. In the future, seatXchange will generate revenue by licensing customer data to ticket agencies and event companies. It also plans to develop a paid feature called “hotspot.”

This “hotspot” will enable fans to message friends at a game or concert through the app, even if they don’t have cell service or a Wi-Fi connection.

In addition to creating a hotspot, seatXchange plans to create personalized fan experiences by using patent-protected proximity detection and automation technology.

Essentially, a digital avatar in the app would assist users and create a unique, personalized experience for them — for example:

The avatar would suggest menu options when a fan is standing in line at the concessions stand, or remind a fan where they parked as they headed to find their car.

In September 2017, seatXchange launched a beta version of its platform in Los Angeles. Since then, the company has expanded to seven cities, including New York, San Francisco, and Houston.

seatXchange has approximately 13,000 registered users and has processed nearly $300,000 in gross ticket sales.
