Kare is a mobile platform that connects patients in need of dental care with available dentists.

Using the app, patients can search for dentists based on location, insurance eligibility, and even by specific dental procedure.

Today, 72 million Americans rely on Medicaid for dental insurance. Medicaid has several restrictions in terms of dental benefits, and isn’t an accepted form of coverage at a number of dental practices.

More than 56 million Americans have no dental insurance at all, and are forced to pay for treatment out of their own pocket. As a result, many of these people don’t ever visit the dentist.

At the same time, dentists must deal with patients who cancel the day of their appointments, or simply don’t show up at all, resulting in missed revenue.

In addition, among the 196,000 dentists in the U.S., many of them only perform certain procedures.

Despite these roadblocks, the U.S. dental industry generates roughly $134 billion in annual revenue.

Kare’s platform provides a solution. Simply put, the company expands traditional access to care for those with little or no insurance, while providing dentists with additional patients so they can increase revenues for their practice.

Here’s how it works:

Using the app, patients can perform a GPS search for dentists that are available, able to perform the requested procedure, and accept the patient’s insurance.

Dentists can log in and mark their availability when they have unplanned openings in their schedule. Doing so enables Kare to add them to the list of available dentists when a patient searches for a provider.

Dentists can also advertise the specific procedures they perform, so a patient is never sent somewhere where treatment isn’t offered.

With respect to revenue, Kare has five different revenue streams:

Discount Dental Plan: for $20 per month, patients without insurance can subscribe to a dental plan that enables them to obtain discounts for treatment through the Kare Mobile network of dentists…

Targeted Marketing: based on patients’ demographics, Kare can provide targeted advertising for dental-related companies…

Online Shopping: patients will be able to purchase dental-related items directly through the app, and Kare will retain a percentage of each sale…

Teledentistry: Kare has developed a patent-pending intraoral camera for use by dental offices. The device enables dentists to complete exams remotely with the help of an on-site hygienist…

Demographic Analytics: Kare will be able to identify and sell key data to help improve patient outcomes in areas where dentists are needed.

Kare is currently in beta testing with five dental practices, giving the company exposure to approximately 20,000 patients.

Following successful testing, the company aims to close a strategic partnership with a major health insurance company.

Kare’s ultimate goal is to partner with a large healthcare organization, or license out its platform to dental-related companies.

Team Background

John Scott Benton - Chief Strategy Officer

Before joining Kare, John worked for Meier & Frank, a department store chain located in the Pacific Northwest. While there, he managed purchasing and inventory for eight of the company’s stores.

He formerly served as a claims representative for State Farm, an insurance company. And he worked as a field underwriter for New York Life, a mutual insurance company.

For 10 years, John served as an associate at Miller Griffin & Marks, a law firm. While there, he practiced civil litigation and some criminal cases.

He earned a degree from Oregon State University.

Kwane Watson - Founder & CEO

Kwane has been a practicing dentist for nearly 20 years. He has built, grown, and sold two dental practices in Louisville, Kentucky.

In addition to dentistry, he has owned businesses in the medical transportation, restaurant, and real estate industries.

Kwane earned his degree from the University of Kentucky.

Brittany Becker - Chief Operating Officer

Brittany has 12 years of experience in the dental office operations field. She has previously worked for several dental practices, and was formerly the Director of Business Integration for a national dental company.

She earned an MBA from Jacksonville State University.

Nandaka Jayaweera - Regional Dental Director

Nandaka is the owner of Gentle Excellence Dental in Louisville, Kentucky. He has practiced dentistry for nearly 10 years.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Kent State University.
