The Not-So-Obvious "Weed" Investment

By Wayne Mulligan, on Thursday, March 28, 2019

Forget bingo or shuffleboard...

For many senior citizens today, the leisure activity of choice is taking a field trip to the local marijuana dispensary.

“It’s like the ultimate senior experience,” says Ron Atkin, a 76-year-old retired beauty products distributor.

I’m not pulling your leg here as part of an early April Fool’s prank. This comes straight from an Associated Press report that was published last week:

The latest boom in marijuana sales is being ushered in by seniors.

What’s going on here? And even more importantly, how can you profit from it?

The answers might surprise you…

The Fastest-Growing Audience for “Weed”

Now that most states have legalized the use of marijuana in some form, aging Americans are increasingly turning to pot.

In fact, as Dr. Gary Small, professor of psychiatry and aging at the University of California, Los Angeles, recently reported, seniors are the fastest-growing audience for “weed.”

That’s why free shuttles to the local dispensary and “Cannabis 101” seminars are becoming commonplace at senior living facilities.

It makes perfect sense, too: an increasing body of evidence supports the fact that cannabis can treat the maladies of old age, from sleeplessness to arthritis.

Meanwhile, other seniors are turning to pot as an alternative to prescription opioids.

For example, eighty-four-year-old, Joan Stammerjohn, has been on OxyContin for ten years to treat chronic pain in her legs. “I’d like to get off it,” she said. Now she’s turning to cannabis.

With ten thousand people turning sixty-five every day, this pot boom for seniors is just beginning.

And if you understand one key point about it, you could make a fortune…

The Not-So-Obvious Investment

You see, these seniors aren’t smoking “joints”…

As a recent Gallup poll found, just 3% of U.S. seniors actually smoke marijuana.

Instead, they consume pot brownies, or they use cannabis-infused creams and oils they can apply to their skin.

Furthermore, they’re not even “getting high”! Instead of consuming THC (the ingredient in marijuana that makes you feel “high”), they’re reaching for CBD

CBD is the cannabis extract that’s believed to have all the medicinal benefits.

As Matt shared in his article yesterday, according to researchers with Brightfield Group, the CBD market is expected to explode from $619 million in 2018, to $5.9 billion this year.

And by 2020, it’ll balloon to a staggering $22 billion.

But as investors, how can we take advantage of this information to profit?
